The United Nations in the Current International Context: A European Perspective (18-19 June 2026)

The Staff of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence EU4GlobalOrder is pleased to announce an important event promoted by the Centre, which will take place on 18 and 19 June 2026.

The Centre of Excellence, in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Centre “Sciences for Peace” of the University of Pisa, has organized two intensive and highly significant study days dedicated to examining the role of the United Nations in the current international context, with a particular focus on the EU’s contribution to the strict observance and development of international law through the promotion of its core values.

The event will begin on 18 June with an interdisciplinary seminar featuring four distinguished scholars and experts from different academic fields, including the history of political institutions, political philosophy, and European Union law. Through their lectures, they will address these issues from a variety of complementary perspectives.

In the afternoon of 18 June, a second interdisciplinary session will focus on Human Rights, Crisis Intervention, and Emergency Management. The session will bring together both senior experts and early-career researchers, fostering a productive dialogue across generations and disciplines.

On the morning of 19 June, two further interdisciplinary sessions will be held. The first, entitled The United Nations between Crises, Reform Prospects, and Future Challenges, will explore the evolving role of the UN in a rapidly changing international environment. The second session, Decision-Making Mechanisms, Global Governance, and Sustainable Development Policies, will examine key contemporary issues relating to international cooperation and sustainable development.

The event will conclude with a Roundtable chaired by the Director of the Centre. This session will serve as a platform for a dynamic exchange of ideas on EU-related issues, encouraging the sharing of expertise and insights while providing participants with an opportunity to discuss critical questions concerning the future of Europe.
